TEST OF HEART FUNCTION DISORDERS
FOR ATHLETES
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND THE GENETIC BACKGROUND OF HEART FUNCTION IN ATHLETES?
Sports are a means of developing self-discipline, perseverance, a competitive spirit, and fair-nindedness, as well as maintaining health. The heart is subjected to increased stress during physical activity. Therefore, it is important to know that a small percentage of people carry genetic mutations that can cause heart function disorders.
Our company offers screening for these genetic mutations that can cause heart function disorders in athletes.
HEART FUNCTION DISORDERS DUE TO GENETIC CAUSES CAN BE CATEGORIZED INTO THREE MAIN GROUPS:
- Primary myocardial diseases (cardiomyopathies): These are diseases that directly affect the heart muscle and are genetically determined.
- IDisorders of impulse formation and conduction, ion channel diseases: These include problems that affect the electrical activity of the heart, such as arrhythmias.
- Vascular abnormalities, heart diseases with increased atherosclerosis: These are diseases that cause thickening and narrowing of the blood vessel walls, thus increasing the risk of heart diseases.
WHY IS EARLY DETECTION IMPORTANT?
• Facilitates appropriate treatments: Accurate diagnosis allows for targeted therapies that can improve the patient's quality of life and prognosis.
• Prevents potential severe, even life-threatening situations: Early detection of genetically based heart diseases can help prevent sudden cardiac death and other serious complications.
• Raises awereness to the dangers of greater physical exertion in the presence of mild existing myocardial or functional disorders: Affected individuals can be informed of which activities pose risks, allowing them to avoid excessive physical stress.
